The day after the Siyandisa Foundation Scholarships were awarded to 25 grade 12 learners from the Free State, Volksblad featured a moving piece about one of the recipient's life stories.
Elsje du Toit, a journalist from Volksblad, interviewed Emmanuel Mofammere from Lenyora la Thuto school in Botshabelo on the day of the award ceremony about his inspriing initiative to sleep over at the school itself in order to have more time to devote to his studies. The plan proved so successful that lately around 70 learners sleep over at the school on a regular basis.
He admits that at first his guardian was concerned about his safety whilst sleeping over at the school. "But when my academic results were revealed, she could see that it produced the desired results. She is very proud of me," Mofammere said.
